Vuiso PDF Editor — How To Use ===================== RUNNING IT Double-click "Vuiso PDF Editor.html" (opens in Chrome / Edge). Nothing to install, no internet needed, no account. It is ONE single file. Everything — the PDF engine, the worker, the icons — is inside it. Copy it to a USB stick, e-mail it, put it anywhere: as long as you have that one file, it runs. Everything runs on your own machine. The PDF is never uploaded anywhere — and that is not just a promise. The page carries a Content-Security-Policy of "connect-src 'none'", which means the browser itself refuses to let it open any network connection. You can verify it: open DevTools (F12), go to the Network tab, and use the app all day — it stays empty. THE ESC KEY ESC always returns you to Select mode. If you are in the middle of a Curve, Polygon or Dimension, the drawing is NOT discarded — it is finished first, exactly as if you pressed ENTER, and the result stays selected so you can adjust it straight away. If you are already in Select mode, ESC clears the selection. WORKFLOW 1. Click "Open PDF" (or drop a PDF onto the middle of the window). 2. Pick a tool or shape on the left, set stroke colour, fill colour and width. 3. Draw over the PDF. 4. "Save Project" to continue tomorrow, "Export PDF" to send it to someone. TOOLS Select Click an annotation to select it. Drag its body to move it, drag a blue point to reshape it. Double-click a Text, Dimension or Area label to edit the wording. SELECTING SEVERAL AT ONCE SHIFT + click add one more to the selection CTRL + SHIFT + click take one back out Ctrl + A everything on this page Drag on empty space to sweep a box over the page: left to right (blue box) catches only shapes that lie ENTIRELY inside it right to left (green box) catches anything the box TOUCHES Holding SHIFT, or CTRL+SHIFT, while you sweep adds to or removes from the selection you already have. With several selected they move together and share any colour, width or opacity you change. The blue reshape points only appear when exactly one thing is selected, because a corner belonging to six shapes at once cannot mean anything. Line Drag from A to B. Arrow Drag from the tail to the arrow head. Curve Click several points to get a smooth curve. Double-click, ENTER or ESC finishes it. Text Click a position, then type the note. The typeface and the bold / italic / underline switches live under TEXT STYLE in the left panel and apply to Text, Dimension and Area labels alike. Image Pick a PNG or JPEG, then drag a box on the page to place it. A plain click drops it at a default size instead. The proportions are kept while you drag - hold SHIFT to stretch it freely. Drag a blue corner later to resize; SHIFT there puts the original proportions back. Only PNG and JPEG are offered, because those are the only two formats a PDF can carry without re-encoding your picture. The file is checked by its actual contents, not by its name, so a renamed file is refused up front rather than failing at export. The picture is embedded at full quality, not a screen grab, and it travels inside the saved project too. Dimension Works like AutoCAD: 1) Drag from point A to point B 2) Move the mouse to set how far out the dimension line sits, click 3) Type the value MANUALLY (e.g. 4.25) and pick the unit m You get extension lines, a dimension line, arrows both ends, label. Area Click where the label should sit, type the area value MANUALLY and pick the unit m2. It is a plain label — no outline is drawn. If you also want the region marked, draw a Polygon or Rectangle around it separately. Note: dimension and area figures are ALWAYS typed by hand. The program never calculates them from the drawing. SHAPES Rectangle Rounded Ellipse Triangle Cloud Polygon All shapes except Polygon: drag diagonally to size them. Polygon: click point by point to build a region that follows the points you click, then double-click, ENTER or ESC to close it. Every shape can be given a fill colour (see below). THE RIGHT-HAND PANEL Pages A scrollable strip of page thumbnails. The current page has a blue outline; pages that already carry annotations get a blue dot and a blue border. Click a thumbnail to jump there — the strip also scrolls itself to follow you. The arrows in the top bar and PageUp / PageDown still work. Thumbnails render in the background as you scroll, so a large set of drawings opens instantly. A striped placeholder means that one is still being drawn; whatever you scroll to is rendered first. Layers Draw order, listed TOP LAYER FIRST. Select an annotation, then: double-up arrow bring to front up arrow bring forward one step down arrow send backward one step double-down arrow send to back Use it when a filled shape hides something underneath, or when a label needs to sit above its shading. CROSSHAIR While any drawing tool is active the system cursor is hidden and replaced by a full-width crosshair with a small red circle at the exact pick point. A thin arrow disappears against line work, so this makes the point you are about to place unmistakable. The crosshair sits on the SNAPPED position, so when the magnet grabs a corner you can see it before you click. In Select mode the normal arrow cursor comes back. SNAP (MAGNET) The "Snap: ON / OFF" button in the top bar, or the S key. While drawing, your click is pulled onto the nearest of, in priority order: 1. a corner or end point of an annotation -> cyan square marker 2. any point along an edge of an annotation -> cyan diamond marker 3. a dark line of the PDF drawing itself -> orange circle marker The marker shows you exactly where the click will land before you press. This is how you make shapes meet cleanly and how you start a dimension exactly on a wall line instead of near it. Magnet range is about 11 pixels on screen, so zoom in for tight work. Holding SHIFT temporarily bypasses the magnet (direction lock wins). SHIFT — STRAIGHT DIRECTION LOCK Works both while DRAWING and while EDITING. Drawing: hold SHIFT while making a Line, Arrow, Dimension, Polygon or Curve and the direction locks to horizontal, vertical or 45 degrees, whichever is closest to your mouse movement. Editing: select an annotation, then hold SHIFT while dragging a blue point. The dragged point stays straight relative to its neighbour, so a line that ended up slightly crooked can be straightened without redrawing it. On shapes, SHIFT makes them equal-sided: a rectangle becomes a square, an ellipse becomes a perfect circle — both while drawing and while dragging a corner. COLOURS Stroke Color outline / line / text / dimension colour. Fill Color shading inside closed shapes. The left-most swatch (red slash) means NO FILL. Opacity fill transparency, 5% to 100%. 20–35% keeps the drawing underneath readable. Stroke and fill are set separately, so you can have a blue outline with yellow shading. If an annotation is selected, changing colour / width / size / opacity changes that annotation immediately. PROPERTIES Width line thickness (in PDF points, unaffected by zoom) Text font size TEXT STYLE Font Helvetica, Times or Courier. Style B bold, I italic, U underline. Any combination is allowed. These apply to the Text, Dimension and Area tools. Like the colours, the panel holds what the NEXT label gets, and with something already selected the change lands on it straight away - so a note you placed an hour ago can be switched to bold italic Times without retyping it. Only these three families are offered, and that is deliberate: they are the typefaces a PDF carries without embedding a font file, so every label you export stays real, selectable, searchable text at any zoom instead of becoming a picture of text. Underline is drawn as a hairline under the baseline, and it follows a dimension label around when the dimension runs at an angle. Projects saved with an older version open unchanged: their text is plain Helvetica and their dimension and area labels stay bold, exactly as before. Pasted onto a DIFFERENT page it lands in exactly the same spot, which is what you want for a stamp, a title block or a note that repeats. Pasted onto the SAME page it steps down and to the right instead, so the copy is not hidden underneath the original, and steps again each repeat. The copy is independent: editing or deleting the original leaves it alone. SAVING Save Project -> " - markup.json" Annotations only; the original PDF is untouched. To carry on editing: open the original PDF first, then click "Open Project" and pick the .json file. Keep the .json in the same folder as the PDF. Export PDF -> " - markup.pdf" A confirmation window appears first, listing the source file, how many annotations there are, which pages are marked up, and the output file name. Nothing is written until you press "Download PDF"; "Cancel" or clicking outside the window backs out. The result is the original PDF with the annotations merged in. Everything is drawn as VECTOR (not an image), so it stays sharp when zoomed or printed, and the labels remain selectable and searchable text. Annotations on every page are included, not just the current page. Files land in the browser's normal Downloads folder. To choose the folder each time, enable Chrome > Settings > Downloads > "Ask where to save". NOTES - Characters supported on export: latin letters, digits, m2, m3, degree and accented letters. Anything else (e.g. Japanese) becomes "?". - Annotations are stored in PDF coordinates, so their position stays exact at any zoom level and remains correct on rotated pages. - Rotated pages: a CAD plot or a scan often carries a quarter-turn flag, so the sheet is stored upright and every reader turns it to show it. Shapes turn with the page, which is what you want. Text has to defend its own direction, so on export it is turned back the same amount and comes out reading left to right, exactly as you placed it. Dimension labels keep lying along their own dimension line, at whatever angle that runs. - Older project files still open. Their colours are converted to the new stroke / fill format, and any area regions or freehand strokes drawn with an earlier version are still displayed and exported correctly, even though those tools are no longer in the toolbar. - Closing the browser while annotations exist triggers a warning.
