VUISO CROP PDF - how to use =========================== Cut the edges off PDF pages: draw the box, type the margins, or let the tool trim the white space. Everything happens inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and it works with the network switched off. This tool works on ONE FILE at a time. To combine several use Vuiso Merge PDF; to make a file smaller use Vuiso Compress PDF. OPENING IT Double-click "Vuiso Crop PDF.html". It opens in your browser like a normal page. There is nothing to install. Chrome or Edge is recommended; Firefox and Safari work too. THE SHORT VERSION 1. Open PDF (or drag the file onto the page area) 2. Drag a box on the page, or press Trim white space 3. Save PDF THE BOX The page you are working on is shown large in the middle, with the box on it. Everything outside the box is dimmed: that is the part being cut away. Drag a corner or an edge resize the box Drag inside the box move it Drag outside the box draw a new box from where you pressed (on a page with no crop yet, dragging anywhere on it draws) The four fields under "Cut from each edge" show how much is cut from the top, left, right and bottom of the page as you see it. Type in them for an exact crop. Switch the unit between mm, inch and pt; nothing changes but the numbers. Below them is the size the page will have afterwards. The strip on the right shows every page with its own box, so a crop that was copied to pages you are not looking at is visible too. Click a page there to work on it. WHICH PAGES A CHANGE GOES TO "A change to the box goes to" decides where an edit is copied: Every page the default. Draw on page 3 and every page gets the box. This page only only the page in front of you. Odd / Even every other page. Scanned books often have a wider margin on the left of one side and the right of the other. A range I type 1-3, 7, 10- A trailing dash means "to the end". The page you are working on always takes the change too, even if it is not in the list: a box that moved on screen and then did not apply would be a lie. The crop is copied as MARGINS, not as a fixed rectangle, so "cut 15 mm off the left" means the same on a small page as on a large one. On a page too small for the margins, opposite margins shrink together so something is always left. Clear crop takes the box off the listed pages. Copy to pages puts the box of the page in front of you onto them. TRIM WHITE SPACE Finds where the ink starts on each listed page and cuts to that. Space to keep around the content how much white to leave, 0 to 30 mm One box for all one box that holds the content of every listed page, so the pages keep one size between them Each page its own each page cut to its own content Anything darker than a light grey counts as ink. Faint speckles, scanner dust and a single stray dot are ignored. On a scan with a grey or dark border, the border counts as content: drag the box in by hand instead. CROPPING HIDES, IT DOES NOT DELETE A normal crop changes which part of the page is SHOWN. The part cut away is still inside the file, and anybody with a PDF editor can bring it back. That is how cropping works in every PDF program, and it is why this matters: Do not rely on a normal crop to hide anything private, such as an ID number or an address in the margin. For that, tick "Remove the cut-away part for good" before saving. Each cropped page is then rebuilt from a picture of only what is inside the box, drawn at 200 dpi, and everything the page used to contain is deleted from the file. The cost: - text on those pages can no longer be selected or searched - links and form fields on those pages are gone Pages without a crop are not touched either way. SAVING "Save PDF" shows a summary first: the source file, how many pages are cropped, whether the cut-away part is hidden or removed, and the output name. Nothing is written until you press the button in that window. The copy is named " - cropped.pdf". Your original file is never modified. A normal crop sets both the page's MediaBox and CropBox to the box, so every reader, printer and converter sees the same page, and drops the TrimBox, BleedBox and ArtBox, which would otherwise describe edges the page no longer has. Nothing else in the file changes: text, links, bookmarks and form fields all survive. A scan often carries a rotation of its own, so the page you see is not the page as it is stored. The box is drawn on what you see and translated onto the stored page, so it lands where you drew it. - Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened. Remove the protection in the program you use to open the document, save an unprotected copy, and use that. - Nothing is stored. No cookies, no database. Closing the tab loses the crop, which is why there is a warning before you do. The only thing remembered is which of the two languages you chose. PRIVACY The file contains a Content-Security-Policy that forbids network connections entirely. That is enforced by the browser, not promised by us: open DevTools, watch the Network tab, and it stays empty. You can also disconnect from the internet and the tool still works.
